George Kottig I came to America in the early 1880's. He and his wife Maria Francisca were very prolific, having ten children. Sadly, one died at six months of age of typhoid, another died of consumption at the age of 25 and tragically Maria Francisca died along with her tenth child during childbirth in 1904.
The eldest child, Teresa Anna Kottig (Aunt Nanny) was left to raise the remaining Kottig children. As adults two of the Kottig children did not marry, three married but had no children and only two, Clara and Cecilia, married and had offspring. However, being daughters, their children did not carry the Kottig name.
In 1984, Wihelmina Francesca Cecilia Kottig Corcoran, passed away at the age of 87. She was the last surviving child of George and Maria Francisca Kottig. All are gone now along with the Kottig name. Exhaustive searches have turned up only Kottig descendants who remained in Europe and did not immigrate to the United States.
