Earl John Kanis passed in the spring of 1986. Shortly thereafter, his wife Mary Frances Kanis I, facing her own mortality, expressed her desire to assemble our family’s history.
"Babe" as she was known, wanted to not only include the Kanis family, but all family branches as well. So along with the help of her children, she set out to collect and organize all that had been passed down over the generations. Rather than remain in an attic never to be seen, the work that she began has now become KANIS.US.
Genealogical information contained herein is the result of extensive research including information extracted from hundreds of folders, files, binders, boxes, papers, memorabilia, birth records, newspaper articles, death certificates, burial records, photographs, artifacts, books, letters, family bibles, certificates, and most recently DNA analysis. Contributions have also been made by distant relatives we have met from our research over the years as well as from European family members that have been in contact with us. Data collected has been double and triple checked whenever possible. Great lengths have been taken to ensure accuracy.
KANIS.US is not only a tribute to Mary Frances Kanis I, but to all family members that have come before us and should act as an inspiration for present and future generations to come.
